1.5km (30min)

This short grass and gravel walking track allows you to meander along the banks of the Alice River and walk up to Baldy Hill. You can enjoy the views of Bartle Frere and Bellenden Ker, QLDs two highest peaks. While you are being serenaded by the water birds, you can watch the masterful fishing Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius) or for a special treat,  you may even see the dancing Brologas (Grus rubicunda). The swamp is also the natural habitat for the Estuarine Crocodile or “Saltie” . Don’t be fooled by their lethargic appearance, they can lunge out of the water at lighting speeds. Be extra careful during breeding season from November to March!  Apply your mosquito repellent before you start your walk.
